Wally has taught screenwriting for the Smith Summer Precollege Creative Writing Workshop and the Easthampton Film Festival's Workshop Series. Additionally he has lectured on screenwriting at the Indie Grits Young Filmmakers series and the Doko Student Film Festival, among others, and is an Executive Story Consultant on the film "Olde Boys," in pre-production.
He is also the co-director of the annual LAVA Film Festival in Greenfield, Massachusetts and has served as a juror for the Northampton Youth Film Festival, the Beaufort International Film Festival, and the Joedance Film Festival,. He is a reader for the Writers Guild of America East New York City Screenwriting Fellowship.
As a private coach to emerging screenwriters, Wally works with individuals, pairs, and small groups on their shorts and features. With an emphasis on structure, he guides his students through developing and completing their screenplays while also offering insights into production, the film festival circuit, and distribution. Many of his students have gone on to have their films produced, featured at numerous film festivals, and/or win awards.
